Environmental Legislation
Every employer needs to be aware that if they are to successfully compete in today’s markets they must be able to demonstrate the ability to balance the needs of their business with those of the environment. In practical terms this means not only abiding by the requirements of the law and monitoring the effects their business is having on the environment, but also seeking ways to improve that performance.
As with health and safety there are laws governing the protection of the environment and not all will necessarily affect every business. The list below is not exhaustive, but it focuses on some of the most important:
- Environmental Protection Act 1990 Part I
- Environmental Protection Act 1990 Part II
- Environmental Protection Act (Duty of Care) Regulations 1991
- Water Resources Act 1991
- Water Industries Act 1991
- Clean Air Act 1993
- Environment Act 1995 Part IV
- Environment Act 1995 Part V
- Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999
- Water Framework Directive
- European Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006
